20th Annual Empty Bowls, Living/Learning Center at the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont

Title: 20th Annual Empty Bowls, Living/Learning Center at the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont
Location: Burlington, Vermont
Description: Our 20th Annual Empty Bowls Dinner will be on Nov 13th at 6:00pm in the Fireplace Lounge here at the Living/Learning Center at the University of Vermont.
This dinner is now a tradition that everyone in the L/L community looks forward to. Bowls are made by members and teachers in the L/L Pottery studio. Food for the soup is donated by local farmers, local grocery stores and by Sedexo. Delicious bread is donated by many of our artisan bread bakers in the Burlington area. Lots of volunteers gather in the Sodexo kitchen chopping and stirring until the soup appears at 6:00pm. We talk about local food insecurity issues in Chittenden County. The organizations we donate to describe their projects and we feed over 300 people less than 2hours.
This year there will also be an exhibit in the Living/Learning Gallery celebrating 20 years of Empty Bowls. We plan to have images, posters and memories documenting past dinners.
Students and local artists will contribute their expressions of hunger and food insecurity. We will build a mountian of donated non perishable goods to be given to the Chittenden County Food Shelf at the end of the exhibit. Particpants at the dinner will have an oppurtunity to add their thoughts and images on hunger issues to our exhibit.
We hope to have a layered, participatory, exhibit that will reflect our community’s long standing concern about hunger here in Burlington.
