Two Rivers, Alaska Empty Bowls

Title: Two Rivers, Alaska Empty Bowls
Location: Two Rivers, Alaska
Description: Two Rivers School (K-8) held their second Empty Bowls Event Tuesday, May 8th from 4:30-6:00PM in Two Rivers, Alaska. It was followed by our Spring Music Concert. The night was filled with good food, beautiful hand-crafted bowls, conversation, outstanding musical performances, and a strong sense of community. Eighty-four students and a small staff created over 250 bowls, raising over $900 dollars. The money will be donated to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

In order to make this project happen, we developed a partnership with the Ceramics Department at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). Jim Brashear and his ceramics students fired over 250 bowls for us. Additionally, they hosted our entire student body at the UAF ceramics studio. What an amazing field trip; we learned about clay, glaze, kilns, and watched a kick-wheel demonstration. Then the students were given the opportunity to glaze their bowls. We are deeply grateful for their generosity.

Thanks for a supplying a brilliant idea.
