Dear Philanthropists,

As you know, we have been working on our documentary for public television, NORTH CAROLINA GIVING, for the past 18 months and we are happy to tell you that it will be broadcast on UNC-TV on Monday, November 9, at 10 pm. We hope you can tune in for this one-hour special. This message contains news of other broadcasts next week, so please read on!

We are very grateful to everyone who shared their stories with us and we have been inspired by your generosity. In the course of this project, we talked to more than 75 people and have recorded at least 80 hours of footage. Editing was a challenge–we had SO many wonderful stories to tell. We have created what we hope will be a long-lasting record of your philanthropy, a project that NCGives can share for many years to come. In addition to the one-hour broadcast, we have created six additional documentaries that will be added to the final DVD version of this project. These pieces include a more in-depth look at the philanthropic work of women, young people, African Americans, Asian Americans, American Indians and Latino/Hispanic communities. The DVD, which will include a comprehensive discussion guide, will be available before the end of the year.

We have tried to use the best of all the material to show the broadest range and impact of philanthropy. Please don’t be disappointed if your appearance in these programs is brief. Your message is powerful.

The one-hour show is narrated by Ambassador James A. Joseph, with a loving introduction from Bill Friday.
The other six pieces were narrated by Nnenna Freelon, the brilliant singer in Durham.
Original music was composed by Richard Putnam of Shelby.
All are extraordinary philanthropists and have said how touched they are by your stories.

Please note that we also have produced a short series for NORTH CAROLINA NOW that will begin airing on UNC-TV next week.
