NORTH CAROLINA GIVING on UNC-TV

Title: NORTH CAROLINA GIVING on UNC-TV
Location: North Carolina
Description: NORTH CAROLINA GIVING on UNC-TV on Monday, November 9, at 10 pm.. (see below for more).

Thirteen stories from around the state are highlighted and Empty Bowls is one of them!
We thought you might want to put a notice on your website and let your own network in Asheville and beyond know about this.

Maybe you can link to this, too!
http://www.vimeo.com/7169803

Dear Philanthropists,

As you know, we have been working on our documentary for public television, NORTH CAROLINA GIVING, for the past 18 months and we are happy to tell you that it will be broadcast on UNC-TV on Monday, November 9, at 10 pm. We hope you can tune in for this one-hour special. This message contains news of other broadcasts next week, so please read on!

We are very grateful to everyone who shared their stories with us and we have been inspired by your generosity. In the course of this project, we talked to more than 75 people and have recorded at least 80 hours of footage. Editing was a challenge–we had SO many wonderful stories to tell. We have created what we hope will be a long-lasting record of your philanthropy, a project that NCGives can share for many years to come. In addition to the one-hour broadcast, we have created six additional documentaries that will be added to the final DVD version of this project. These pieces include a more in-depth look at the philanthropic work of women, young people, African Americans, Asian Americans, American Indians and Latino/Hispanic communities. The DVD, which will include a comprehensive discussion guide, will be available before the end of the year.

We have tried to use the best of all the material to show the broadest range and impact of philanthropy. Please don’t be disappointed if your appearance in these programs is brief. Your message is powerful.

The one-hour show is narrated by Ambassador James A. Joseph, with a loving introduction from Bill Friday.
The other six pieces were narrated by Nnenna Freelon, the brilliant singer in Durham.
Original music was composed by Richard Putnam of Shelby.
All are extraordinary philanthropists and have said how touched they are by your stories.

Please note that we also have produced a short series for NORTH CAROLINA NOW that will begin airing on UNC-TV next week.

Tuesday, Nov 3 on NORTH CAROLINA NOW — 7:30 pm on UNC-TV
North Carolina Giving: American Indians and Giving
Beginning of our four part series that focuses on philanthropy. Haliwa Saponi students who are building a greenhouse for traditional plants. We meet Stephanie Richardson, a volunteer firefighter in Hollister.

Wednesday, Nov 4 on NORTH CAROLINA NOW — 7:30 pm on UNC-TV
North Carolina Giving: Women and Giving
Part two of our series on philanthropy. In this segment we meet three retired teachers in Fayetteville who are making their community stronger with after-school programs for children. Features Janie Lucas, Mildred Braxton and Sarah DeBerry.

Thursday, Nov 4 on NORTH CAROLINA NOW — 7:30 pm on UNC-TV
North Carolina Giving: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
Part three of our four part series examining philanthropy in our state. In Charlotte Dr. Ki-Hyun Chun and his wire, Sunny, have built the largest Asian library in the southeast. And in Fayetteville, the annual International Folk Festival depends on volunteers like Gloria Canonizado, Vilma Jose and Fiante Kui Rivera.

Monday, Nov 9 on NORTH CAROLINA NOW — 7:30 pm on UNC-TV
North Carolina Giving: Young People and Giving
Part four of our series examining philanthropy in our state. The Youth Giving Network brings teenagers together from all corners of NC. Annual conference features young artist David Garibaldi. Meet young professionals in Raleigh who have organized their philanthropy as a way to have fun after work–the Bee Hive.

Also on UNC-TV this week: We are very pleased that Donna Chavis, executive Director of NCGives, will be the guest on North Carolina People with Host Bill Friday on Friday, Nov 6, at 9 PM, and Sunday, Nov 8, at 5:30 PM

And you will probably see short promos about the broadcasts in the next week if you are watching UNC-TV. You might even see your smiling face!

Please tell your friends and associates to tune in. And check out the website www.ncgives.org/documentaries for more information.

On behalf of NCGives, who generously commissioned this project, and our production team, Georgann Eubanks, Nancy Tom and George Sturmann, thank you for everything you have given us and for all that you do. We hope to see you again soon.

Your old friend, Donna
